The EU and digital signatures – back to the future for electronic invoicing?

The EU VAT Directive that comes into force on 1 January 2013 turns the use of digital signatures into an option rather than a mandate for e-Invoicing and offers business controls as an alternative. This is already raising many questions and leads me to question why digital signatures have a bad name.

As a quick and easy way to prove an invoice's authenticity of origin and integrity of data, digital signatures ensure audits pass smoothly. Taking away their requirement is causing confusion and, in my mind, is a step in the wrong direction. [More]
